High-tech and clean production

The manufacturing industry is a vital element of Almaty’s economic structure, ensuring sustainable growth and modernization of the city’s economy

According to the results of January-March 2025, the volume of production in the city’s manufacturing industry increased by 13% compared to the same period in 2024. The total volume of industrial production amounted to 574.8 billion tenge, which is 11.2% higher than last year

The share of the manufacturing industry in the gross regional product of Almaty for the first 9 months of 2024 was 4.5%. Despite a slight decrease compared to 2023 (5.6%), in absolute terms the sector shows growth: the volume of gross added value increased by 13.4 billion tenge

In 2024, 12.3 billion tenge of investments in fixed capital were attracted to the city’s manufacturing industry, of which 10.7 billion tenge were from the enterprises’ own funds. The main investments were directed to the production of beverages, food products, rubber and plastic products, as well as machinery and equipment

Almaty is betting on diversification and development of high-tech and environmentally friendly production with high added value. The predominant source of financing remains the enterprises’ own funds (64.3%), which indicates the internal sustainability of the industry

Mechanical engineering, including the production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers, plays a significant role in the structure of the city’s manufacturing industry. In January-March 2025, investments in this segment amounted to 2 billion tenge, which is 54% less than in the same period last year

However, the total volume of mechanical engineering production for the same period reached 203 billion tenge, and the physical volume index was 126.5%, which indicates the recovery and dynamic growth of the industry

In addition, new projects are being implemented in the Almaty Industrial Zone (AIZ), including the production of electronic audio and video equipment for cars. In 2024, 10 new enterprises were launched in AIZ, some of which are related to the automotive industry, creating 1,319 jobs

The city’s investment policy is focused on supporting industrial clusters, digitalization and equipment modernization. Particular attention is paid to high-tech projects with export potential and the ability to create productive jobs
